276 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position in relation to the provision of a new library in Newbridge, County Kildare; if the costing for this included in his Department's 1998 budget; and the commencement date for the project. [7020/98]
I gave approval in principle in May of last year for the library headquarters element of a proposal for a library headquarters-arts centre in Newbridge, County Kildare. Sketch design and cost plan proposals have since been received in my Department and are being considered. The question of making library funding available does not arise at this stage. The funding of the arts centre element of the project is a matter for the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands.
