371 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of additional prison places which will be provided in each of the years 1998, 1999 and 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7401/98]

The following number of additional prison places will be provided: 1998, 692, 1999, 400. Preliminary planning of additional places is under way and may result in further places becoming available in 2000.
