Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Irish Sailing Association.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

59 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation his views on the tourism potential of recommendations made in the recent report published by the Irish Sailing Association; the steps, if any, he will take to implement the recommendations relating to the tourism sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7166/98]

The report "Sailing in Ireland: A Profile" was launched on 6 March by my colleague, Dr. Woods, Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, who has primary responsibility in this area.

The Minister and his Department now propose to prepare a development strategy for sailing within the larger marine leisure sector, bearing in mind the recommendations of the report. He has indicated that they will be in consultation with my Department, and these consultations will also include Bord Fáilte, which has worked closely in the past with the Marine Institute on the development of the sailing product in Ireland.
