Vol. 489 No. 5

Written Answers. - State Aid to Ryanair.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

51 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if the European Transport Commissioner's office has requested details of State aids paid to Ryanair; her views on whether such payments were made, in particular, in the handing over of three developed routes to Ryanair; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8395/98]

The Director General of the European Commission's Transport Directorate has requested information regarding State assistance to Ryanair in order to assess whether there has been any infringement of State aids policy. The necessary information is currently being compiled and will be forwarded within the specified timeframe.

I set out my position in relation to State assistance and the allocation of routes to Ryanair in my detailed response to Parliamentary Question No. 25 on 24 February 1998.
