Ceist:372 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Finance the number of persons in receipt of one-parent tax free allowances in the 1998-9 tax year. [9499/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the number of individuals on tax records who will qualify for the single parent or widowed parent allowances for the income tax year 1998-9 is estimated to be of the order of 31,000.
This figure is provisional and is likely to be revised on an ongoing basis.
