Vol. 489 No. 7

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

David Stanton

Ceist:

153 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if, further to her reply during the Adjournment Debate of 25 February 1998, she will give details of the different strands of work being done on transport investment needs in relation to Cork, including the terms of reference, date commenced, persons and bodies involved; the body and persons that she asked to bring all this work together in a single document; the date on which she expects this document to be presented; when she expects to publish this document; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9636/98]

In the context of a review of overall public transport investment needs, I have asked CIE to prepare a separate assessment of the situation in Cork for my consideration. The company is undertaking this work and this includes local involvement by both Bus Éireann and Iarnród Éireann. This work has been under way for some time now and is, I understand, nearing completion. A report will be submitted shortly. This will be a CIE report and as such I do not intend to publish it. However, subject to CIE having no objection and there being no commercially sensitive information contained in it, I do not anticipate any objection to copies being made available on request to interested parties.
