Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - Local Authority Housing.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

222 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of rented local authority houses in each housing authority area; the number of these houses which have central heating; the number of these houses which are in areas affected by restrictions on smoky fuel use; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10053/98]

Information in relation to the number of occupied local authority dwellings in each housing authority area is contained in my Department's annual Housing Statistics Bulletin for 1997, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. Information is not available in my Department in regard to the number of such dwellings which have central heating, nor in respect of the number of those dwellings in the areas affected by the ban on the marketing, sale and distribution of bituminous coal. Local authorities were advised in February 1994 that full central heating should be provided in new local authority housing.
