Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - National Monuments.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

241 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if her attention has been drawn to the recent discovery of an ancient Viking fort on the banks of the Barrow and Dunrally, Vicarstown, County Laois; the plans, if any, her Department has for the fort; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9753/98]

Dúchas The Heritage Service of my Department is aware of the existence of Dunrally Fort which I assume is the monument to which the Deputy refers. The Fort, which is in private ownership, is entered in the Register of Historic Monuments which affords its legal protection under the National Monuments Acts, 1930 to 1994.

There are no further proposals for the monument at present.
