Vol. 490 No. 4

Written Answers. - Deaths from Cancer.

John Gormley

Ceist:

106 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will give exact statistics on the number of deaths that occur annually from cancer; and if he will specify, in each case, the type of cancer involved. [10365/98]

Data on mortality are routinely published in the Annual and Quarterly Reports on Vital Statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office. The most recent year for which complete figures are available is 1994 and a breakdown of the number of deaths from cancer in that year by type of cancer is set out in Table l. Table 2 provides details of deaths from selected cancers for 1996. These figures are provisional as they are based on year of registration rather than year of occurrence.
