Written Answers. - Arts Plan.
The Deputy will be aware that the current Arts Plan was prepared by An Chomhairle Ealaíon /The Arts Council at the request of my predecessor as a three year plan covering the years 1995-1997. However the required level of funding to deliver the plan in this timescale was not forthcoming from the previous Government and the plan had to be recast as a five year plan 1995-1999. When I came to office I secured a major increase in the allocation to an Chomhairle Ealaíon thereby facilitating an chomhairle to implement the plan by the end of this year.
I have now commissioned a review of the Arts Plan by independent consultants with the full participation and co-operation of An Chomhairle Ealaíon. This review will include an assessment of the actual achievements as compared with the objectives set out in the plan and is expected to be completed in September.
