Vol. 490 No. 7

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Regulations.

David Stanton

Ceist:

105 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence the total sum of the deductions made from unmarried reservists in respect of rations for each of the years from 1995 to 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11127/98]

The total amounts deducted from the pay of unmarried reservists of the FCA and An Slua Muirí in respect of rations for the years in question were as follows (rounded to the nearest £100): 1995 — £142,800; 1996 — £142.600; 1997 — £140,500.

In answering related questions on 25 February last I advised that the arrangements governing deductions in respect of rations are provided for in Defence Force Regulations. In that regard my Department is at present examining, in conjunction with the military authorities, the differing arrangements concerning the deduction for rations in respect of married and single members of the FCA and An Slua Muirí. The outcome of this examination will be brought to the attention of the Reserve Defence Force Representative Association (RDFRA) which represents members of the FCA and An Slua Muirí in discussions with the Department on matters concerning remuneration and certain other conditions of service.
