Vol. 491 No. 2

Written Answers. - Immigration Guidelines.

Ceist:

157 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will give details on the guidelines issued to immigration officers at the points of entry to the State in relation to the reception of applicants for asylum; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11625/98]

Revised guidelines last issued to Immigration Officers on 29 August 1997 on the commencement of various sections of the Refugee Act, 1996 and the coming into force of the Dublin Convention. These guidelines set out how an asylum seeker should be dealt with on arrival in the State.

I have arranged for a copy of the guidelines to be sent to the Deputy.

The guidelines are currently under review.
