Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

165 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties being experienced by fishermen and others using Port na Blagh pier in County Donegal; and the plans, if any, he has to carry out the urgent and necessary works at this pier. [12003/98]

Port na Blagh pier is owned by Donegal County Council and responsibility for its repair and maintenance rests with the local authority.

Donegal County Council has not, to date, made any proposal to my Department concerning development works at Port na Blagh pier. Any proposal would, moreover, have to be considered in the context of the very limited funding available for fishery harbour development and the need for that funding to be focused in the first instance on the key strategic fishing ports.
