Vol. 491 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. - Computer Programmes.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

4 Mr. Quinn asked the Taoiseach the measures, if any, taken to ensure that the Office of the Attorney General is year 2000 compliant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12026/98]

The Office of the Attorney General is currently examining its IT systems to establish their year 2000 compliance status. Any non-compliant hardware or software will be upgraded this year. The Attorney General's Office is also in contact with the other offices in the Government Buildings complex to ensure that shared systems, such as the telephone and fire alarm systems, are year 2000 compliant.

Is the Taoiseach in a position to tell me if the programme to put all the statute legislation since 1922 on CD ROM is continuing apace?

I do not have that information with me. The first three year phase from 1995 is complete. The 2000 programme has now started. A further £30,000 to £50,000 will be required for IT systems. The remaining expenditure has been completed.
