24 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the acreage in the country used for growing Christmas trees; the estimated total annual production of Christmas trees produced by Coillte and private growers or farmers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12229/98]
As the planting of Christmas trees is not grant aided nor regulated by my Department, I do not have the information sought by the Deputy in respect of the total acreage in the country used for the growing of Christmas trees or the total annual production by the private sector.
In 1997, Coillte had approximately 600 hectares under Christmas tree production and produced approximately 75,000 Christmas trees.
