Vol. 491 No. 5

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

70 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the total amount of Ireland's national milk quota in gallons in 1984 when quotas were introduced; the total number of gallons held under quota in 1997-98; and the percentage decrease since 1984. [12537/98]

Ireland's initial national milk quota as at 1 April 1984 was 1,128 million gallons. In addition, 64.7 million gallons was made available to Ireland from the Community Reserve. Ireland's current national quota is 1,118.5 million gallons which is a decrease of 6.2 per cent.

The decrease is the result of various compulsory reductions in the quotas of all member states over the years.
