Vol. 491 No. 5

Written Answers. - Drug Treatment Services.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

81 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will sanction funding to a counselling centre (details supplied) in County Cork, which provides a top quality service and where the demand for the service is growing annually, for the provision of two full-time and two part-time counsellors so that they can offer an ongoing service without the interminable delay that currently operates; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12521/98]

The provision of drug treatment services in the Southern Health Board area is a matter for the health board in the first instance. The Southern Health Board and the Cork Local Drugs Task Force are in contact with this counselling centre regarding its request for additional staff. I am awaiting details about the outcome of discussions on the matter and I will consider the matter further in the light of this.
