103 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will forward the information requested by a person (details supplied) in County Sligo which was sent to his Department on 29 April 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14309/98]
The letter referred to in the Deputy's question was received by my Department on 1 May 1998.
Since the commemoration ceremony and presentation of posthumous medals on 25 April 1998 to relatives of deceased merchant seamen who served on the s.s. Ardmore during the Emergency period, my Department has been inundated with inquiries in relation to eligibility requirements. The Department's Mercantile Marine Office, Eden Quay, Dublin, is processing inquiries and applications received and will offer assistance to applicants in determining whether the qualification requirements for receipt of the awards have been met.
A reply to the person concerned will issue very shortly.
