Vol. 492 No. 5

Written Answers. - Student Support Schemes.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

137 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the financial assistance, if any, that can be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in relation to the course which he is taking in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14541/98]

Since 1996 the student support schemes have been extended to provide maintenance grants for eligible students pursuing approved full-time undergraduate third level courses of at least two years duration in other EU member states.

I understand that the student to whom the Deputy refers intends to pursue a postgraduate certificate in education at the University of Wolverhampton. Postgraduate courses outside Ireland do not come within the scope of the student support schemes and accordingly the student in question does not qualify for financial assistance.
