Vol. 492 No. 6

Written Answers. - Pathology Services.

Alan M. Dukes

Ceist:

110 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the lack of a pathologist at Naas Hospital, County Kildare, to supply pathology services to the Kildare coroner causes serious delays to the carrying out of post-mortem examinations, increases the cost of post-mortem examinations, which have to be carried out outside the county at substantial extra expense, disrupts funeral arrangements and causes further distress to bereaved families; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14710/98]

With regard to the provision of pathology services at Naas General Hospital I have asked the Eastern Health Board to investigate and prepare a report on this matter. As soon as I receive this report I will reply directly to the Deputy.
