Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

249 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government whether he will instruct local authorities to provide suitable housing accommodation to returning Irish emigrants with particular reference to first time home seekers and retired persons of Irish birth living on pensions or similar income; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15083/98]

The full range of social housing measures is available to Irish emigrants, on their return, on the same basis as they are available to households residing in this country. It is a matter for each local authority to administer the local authority and social housing programmes in their area, having regard, as appropriate, to the housing needs of their area and their schemes of letting priorities.
