Ceist:

202 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of acres of sugar beet harvested in each of the years from 1990 to 1997; the weight of sugar beet harvested in each of those years; the average price paid to farmers per unit of weight in each of those years; and the estimated profit to farmers per unit of weight in each of those years. The information requested is set out in the following table. The average price paid is calculated as the total amount paid to farmers for the harvest divided by the total tonnage delivered, while the estimated profit per unit of weight in each year is based on the figure published by Teagasc as the gross margin for the enterprise.
