Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mental Health Services.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

304 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of psychiatric nurses providing home services to patients in County Kildare; if he has satisfied himself that there is an adequate service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16145/98]

The Eastern Health Board is responsible for the delivery of health services, including mental health services, in the catchment area which incorporates County Kildare. The Kildare-West Wicklow Mental Health Service is primarily a community based service and there are approximately twenty psychiatric nurses providing home services to patients in County Kildare. These nurses work as part of a multi-disciplinary team which includes consultants, non-consultant doctors, social workers, occupational therapists and psychologists. The Eastern Health Board considers the service to be adequate at present.
