Ceist:

493 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 316 of 10 March 1998, he will outline the progress, if any, made in providing an appropriate education for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in view of the fact he has had no schooling since March 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16324/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 433 and 493 together.

I assure the Deputy that every effort is being made by my Department's inspectorate to ensure that the person in question has access to an appropriate education as soon as possible. I have requested a member of my Department's inspectorate to call to the home of the child in question to discuss the educational options available with the child's parents.
