82 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Taoiseach the number of parliamentary draftsmen employed in the Attorney General's Office; the number of vacancies for the position; the number who retired in each of the years 1997 and 1998; the number employed on a contract basis; and the qualification or previous occupation of each person so employed. Number of Draftsmen.

13, including three on contract.

Number of vacancies.

Two, procedures are in hand to have a recruitment competition to fill these vacancies. In addition one draftsman is on special leave of absence

Retirements in 1997 and 1998.

None. Five contracts ended during the period. One person who had been on a career break resigned from the Office.

Three.

Qualifications.

Permanent Staff:

Barrister-at-Law (seven). Solicitor (four including person on leave of absence).

Contract Staff:

Senior Counsel, former Parliamentary Draftsman.

Barrister (British Columbia), Senior Legislative Counsel, Ministry of Attorney General (British Columbia).

Barrister-at-Law, Assistant Secretary, Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Special Legal Adviser, Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
