Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

122 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of persons aged under 25 holding motor insurance; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16318/98]

Given that neither the insurance industry nor this Department maintain a database detailing Irish motor policyholders on age, or on any other basis, and having regard to the fact that many young Irish motorists are in fact insured as named drivers on their parents' motor policies, it is not possible to ascertain the number of persons aged under 25 holding motor insurance in this country.
