191 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has reviewed the several requests from inner city primary schools in the north inner city task force area of Dublin 1 that they be permitted to retain teachers based on projected intake figures for September 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The review to which the Deputy refers is continuing. Two of the schools involved have already been notified that, based on their projected enrolments for the forthcoming school year, they may retain the teaching posts they were originally due to lose to the panel.
Members of my Department's inspectorate have visited a number of other schools in the area, where retention of posts has been requested, to assess their staffing needs for the forthcoming school year. The reports of the inspectors are currently being considered by my Department.
