Vol. 493 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bovine Disease Controls.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

98 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the way in which an owner of livestock can obtain a herd number; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16555/98]

The granting of a herd number is based solely on the interests of disease control and among the criteria for granting a herd number is that a herd must be managed at all times as a separate epidemiological unit, that is, with separate testing facilities, farm equipment, housing, fodder, management and without intermixing with animals from other herds.

Applications for a herd number should be made to the relevant district veterinary office.
