Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - Second Commission on the Status of Women.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

205 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of occasions the working group monitoring the second Commission on the Status of Women has met; and the priorities in this report which his Department are addressing. [16632/98]

The gender equality monitoring committee was established in June 1997 to oversee the implementations of the recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women and the Platform for Action of the Fourth World Conference. The committee is representative of the key Departments, the social partners and women's organisations.

This committee replaced the monitoring committee on the implementation of the recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women which published two progress reports.

The gender equality monitoring committee has met on eight occasions. A third progress report on the implementation of the recommendations of the second commission is currently being prepared and will be published later this year.
