206 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the current position in relation to Government proposals to have Objective One status retained for the west, Border and midland regions of Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18158/98]

207 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the need to retain Objective One status in the next round of Structural Funds in the Border region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18161/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 206 and 207 together.

I refer the Deputies to my detailed reply to Deputy Smith on this issue on 11 June 1998. The Government is still considering the matter and a decision will be made in the near future. I have nothing further to add to my earlier reply at present.
