Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Staff.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

323 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason a person over 50 years of age is not eligible to apply for a vacancy for assistant librarian with Roscommon County Council in view of the fact that employment equality legislation safeguards age discrimination up to 65 years of age; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19481/98]

The qualifications for the office of assistant librarian specify an upper age limit of 50.

A review of age limits for all local authority officer posts is being finalised in my Department. Any changes arising from this review will be implemented as soon as possible.
