Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

86 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his Department's proposals for the provision of sewage treatment facilities to many parts of rural Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19426/98]

The water and sewerage services investment programme, which is published annually, details the major sewerage projects to get to construction and to be advanced through planning each year. The current programme lists over 80 sewerage projects which are being progressed and this represents the broad shape of the programme for the future. The investment programme is reviewed each year in the light of emerging priorities and the available resources. The 1999 investment programme is due to be published early next year. Local authorities also undertake sewerage projects under the devolved small schemes programme on the basis of priorities determined locally within an overall allocation provided to each county council by my Department.
