Vol. 495 No. 2

Written Answers. - Taxable Income.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

142 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance the number of taxpayers in each year declaring an income in excess of £500,000 per annum for each of the past five tax years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19770/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the relevant information available is in relation to the number of income taxpayers with gross incomes exceeding £500,000 per annum for the income tax years 1994-95 and 1995-96. Reliable comparable information is not yet available for later years.

The following is the information requested in so far as it is available:

Taxpayers declaring an income in excess of £500,000 per annum for 1994/95 and 1995/96

Income tax year

Number of income taxpayers with gross income exceeding £500,000

1994/95

1995/96
