Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Seaside Resorts Scheme.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

196 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Finance if consideration will be given to designating Omeath and Carlingford, County Louth, for coastal area status; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20457/98]

The seaside resort scheme was introduced with effect from 1 July 1995 for three years on a pilot basis. The qualifying period was extended in the 1998 Finance Act for a further year to 30 June 1999 for pipeline projects. The seaside resort scheme is currently being reviewed by officials from my Department, the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation and the Revenue Commissioners. Any further decision regarding the scheme will have to take into consideration the findings of this review.
