Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Military Neutrality.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

301 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on whether the involvement of the Government in hosting the conference of European security chiefs which took place recently in Malahide, County Dublin, has implications for the Irish policy of military neutrality; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20086/98]

No. The conference to which the Deputy's question refers was an international Conference on Improvised Terrorist Weaponry held in Malahide, County Dublin on 21-22 September 1998 which was co-funded by my Department and the Commission of the European Communities. The conference was organised within the framework of Title VI of the Treaty on European Union governing co-operation in the fields of justice and home affairs.
