Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Nuclear Waste Shipments.

John Gormley

Ceist:

101 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her Department made representations to the German Green Party in relation to shipments of nuclear waste to Sellafield; whether it requested the German Greens to insist in their negotiations with the SPD that this practice cease, thus making Sellafield economically unviable; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20544/98]

I would like to refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 145 and 146 of 6 October 1998 regarding the shipment of nuclear waste from Germany to Sellafield.

I have not made representations to the Green Party in Germany on this matter nor is it my intention to do so. As I stated in my reply of 6 October 1998, my Department, with the assistance of the Department of Foreign Affairs, will be keeping in touch with developments in Germany on the whole issue of the transport of nuclear waste from Germany to Sellafield.
