Vol. 495 No. 6

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Joe Higgins. I call the Deputy to state the matter of which he has given me notice.

(Dublin West): I seek leave to move the Adjournment of the Dáil on the following issue of grave national importance, the jailing of two construction workers yesterday who were participating in a campaign against the black economy, tax evasion, the pressure that sees workers killed on building sites and public anger over the treatment of these building workers in contrast to the perceived leniency for others alleged to be involved in widespread tax evasion in the amount of tens of millions of pounds.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
