Vol. 495 No. 6

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

13 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science when additional space will be provided for Coláiste Choilm, Cork, in view of the fact that there are 1,200 pupils attending this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20725/98]

An extension of 1,270 square metres to cater for increased enrolments is currently being planned for Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig.

The outline sketch scheme for the project is being examined by my Department's technical staff and a response will issue to the County Cork Vocational Education Committee as quickly as possible. Further stages of planning to be completed by the vocational education committees design team include developed sketch scheme, detail design, bill of quantities and tendering.

The Minister has given this project a high priority due to the very clear need for this additional space. Crucial to it proceeding is the unrivalled commitment which this government has given to the provision of funding for school building purposes. In the case of second level schools, this year's outturn will show a doubling of the resources allocated in the 1997 budget.
