Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers Scheme.

John Perry

Ceist:

368 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in County Sligo will be approved for the primary medical certificates; the reason for the delay in having his case assessed; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that he resides in a rural area, and it is necessary to have his car modified; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21770/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the person concerned submitted an application for relief from tax under the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Relief) Regulations, 1994. As the application form was incomplete, it was returned for completion and for production of a primary medical certificate, issued by the senior area medical officer.

I also understand that the issue of the necessary primary medical certificate has been refused and that the applicant has appealed this refusal to the Disabled Drivers Medical Board of Appeal, an independent board whose decision is final.
