433 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of people with a learning disability who are waiting admission to residential care in the Southern Health Board region to date in 1998; the number for 1996 and 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21467/98]
Data from the national intellectual disability database indicated that in October 1996, 256 persons with a mental handicap were assessed as requiring a new residential placement in the period 1997-2001 in the Southern Health Board region. While figures are not available in respect of 1997, up-dated information in relation to 1998 is currently being finalised and I expect it to be available towards the end of the year.
