Ceist:

477 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of nursing schools under the aegis of his Department; whether general medicine, midwifery, childcare or psychiatry; the number of pupils who will begin in the term 1998-9; and the number who commenced in the year 1997-8. [21930/98]

There are a total of forty-eight schools of nursing approved by An Bord Altranais for nurse training, broken down as follows:
