Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

492 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when persons (details supplied) in County Cork will receive payment of a new house grant. [21351/98]

A new house grant is payable only where a house meets the conditions and the standards specified by my Department and set out in the explanatory memorandum (HA1) on new house grants supplied to each applicant for a grant. In particular, construction of the house must be in compliance with the requirements of the building regulations. The suitability of new materials used in the house must be demonstrated through certification by a competent body, such as the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI)/Irish Agrement Board (IAB). In this case, the certification required is not available in respect of "Euroflex" piping which has been used in the house for hot water and central heating systems. As a consequence, a new house grant is not payable and the applicants are being notified accordingly.
