Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Beverley Flynn

Ceist:

495 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when approval will be given for the proposed sewage treatment plant at Crossmolina, County Mayo. [21355/98]

This scheme is included in my Department's 1998 water and sewerage services investment programme as a scheme to be advanced through planning. Contract documents for civil and mechanical elements of the scheme were recently received in my Department and are under consideration. Contract documents for site and sewer survey investigations, which are necessary to complete the main civil works tender documents, were approved last July and the local authority's tender report and recommendations in this regard are awaited. A certificate of completion of planning is also awaited.

Ceist:

496 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received proposals from Clare County Council for a sewerage scheme at Quilty, County Clare; if so, when this work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21356/98]

I recently approved Clare County Council's proposals to update the preliminary report for this scheme. It is now a matter for the local authority to advance the planning of the scheme.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

497 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of money allocated to Kilkenny County for sewerage and water schemes for each of the years from 1996 to date; the number of schemes awaiting funding in the county; the length of time each one has been lodged with his Department; if he will give priority to schemes (details supplied) in the context of the 1999 Estimates; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that these schemes are holding up critical developments in local communities. [21360/98]

The 1998 allocations for small public schemes and group schemes are £162,250 and £92,125, respectively. Responsibility for the administration of the small public and group schemes has been devolved to local authorities. Prioritisation of these schemes and the allocation of grants is a matter for the local authority concerned within the block grant allocations made by my Department.
The 1998 water services investment programme includes the following schemes:

Gowran-Goresbridge-Paulstown Water Scheme (Source Protection)

Completed

Kilkenny Water Conservation Project

In progress

Kilkenny Main Drainage (Breagagh Valley) Scheme

At construction

Thomastown Sewerage Scheme

Preliminary report being prepared by local authority

In addition to these schemes, proposals received from Kilkenny County Council in respect of Kilkenny East Environs sewerage extensions and Castlecomer Road to Glendine surface water sewer are included among the schemes approved for funding under the serviced land initiative.
Proposals in respect of the following schemes have been submitted to my Department:

Gowran-Goresbridge-Paulstown Water (Main Scheme)

Contract Documents submitted - October 1986

Graiguenamanagh Sewerage Scheme

Contract Documents submitted - October 1998

Kilmacow Sewerage Scheme

Revised preliminary report submitted - October 1993

South Kilkenny Water Supply Scheme

Design Brief submitted - October 1998

Urlingford Sewerage Scheme

Brief submitted - December 1996

Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve these proposals. However, they will together with all the proposals submitted by other local authorities, be considered, in the context of the investment programme for 1999.
