Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

510 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a new sewerage scheme has been approved for Castlebar, County Mayo, and its environs; if so, the estimated cost of this scheme; the consultants appointed to draw up plans; and when work will commence on the major portion of the scheme following the release of tender documentation based on the consultants reports. [21593/98]

I approved Mayo County Council's proposals to start work on an advance section of this scheme, at an estimated cost of £500,000, last July and I understand the work has recently commenced. The remainder of the scheme is included in my Department's 1998 water and sewerage services investment programme as a scheme to be advanced through planning. Mayo County Council's proposals and recommendations on the appointment of consultants for the detailed design of this element of the scheme are currently awaited. The council's latest estimate of cost of the scheme, including the advance section, is £5 million.
