Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Heritage Service Report.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

582 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands when the report on the heritage service Dúchas will be published; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21907/98]

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the review carried out recently by external consultants in regard to the heritage functions of my Department. The terms of reference of the review were:

Within the overall context of the Department's Statement of Strategy to review the management structure, operations, organisation processes and staffing of the heritage functions of the Department with the view to identifying the measures necessary to provide a high quality co-ordinated and effective service, and to draw up a practical action plan to implement these measures. This review will also take into account the existing structures and resources in the remainder of the Department.

The report of the consultants has been submitted to me, following an initial examination by my Department's senior management. A series of structured workshops has been initiated to allow staff the opportunity to make their views known. Copies of the executive summary of the report have been sent to all staff in the heritage area of my Department and the full report has been made available in the relevant divisons and on my Department's main computer systems. It is not my intention to formally publish the report.
