Ceist:

133 Mrs. Owen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the action, if any, she has taken on the report by persons (details supplied) on the strike in Aer Lingus; and the role of Ryanair in that strike. [21840/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 62, 67 and 133 together.

On publication of the Report of the Inquiry into the Industrial Dispute at Dublin Airport I urged the parties concerned — Ryanair and SIPTU — to give serious consideration to its findings and I immediately held meetings with ICTU and IBEC. As is the case with every industrial dispute it is the parties themselves who must ultimately resolve matters.

I also undertook to begin discussions in the High Level Group on Trade Union Recognition on the conclusions of the inquiry team about industrial disputes of special public importance. Yesterday ICTU provided me with the outcome of their deliberations and I will shortly be meeting with IBEC. It is then my intention to have a meeting of the high level group convened at an early date.

I am informed that the Minister for Public Enterprise, Deputy O'Rourke, initiated a review of the adequacy of contingency plans to deal with a major industrial dispute at Dublin Airport. Aer Rianta requested that the review be extended to include other airports in the State, particularly Cork and Shannon, to which the Minister for Public Enterprise agreed. The review is expected to be completed by end December.
