Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Offences.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

593 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 37 of 20 October 1998, the number of out of State lorry operators prosecuted for road traffic offences that did not require arrest and charge procedures; the number of persons on whom a summons for road traffic offences were served outside the State under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21347/98]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that statistics in regard to the number of out of state lorry operators prosecuted for road traffic offences that did not require arrest and charge procedures, are not compiled in such a way as to readily provide the details which the Deputy has requested.

My Department has not received any requests under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1994 from the Garda authorities to have summonses for road traffic offences served on out of state lorry operators for service abroad.
