Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - GAA Pilot Projects.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

648 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received a submission from the GAA on pilot projects which it proposes to implement in disadvantaged areas; the plans, if any, he has to allocate funding for those projects; the date he received the submission; and the funding allocated to date to those projects. [21192/98]

The GAA made a submission dated 31 July to Mr. John Treacy, executive chairman of the Irish Sports Council, in respect of pilot projects which the GAA proposes to implement in disadvantaged areas. The submission has now been examined by the high performance advisory committee of the Irish Sports Council, and subsequently by the council itself whose recommendation is currently under consideration in my Department, with a view to notifying the association shortly on the level of funding to be provided from my Vote towards the cost of projects.
