Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

John Perry

Ceist:

651 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his attention has been drawn to the application received from a group (details supplied) in County Sligo; if he will grant the necessary funds to enable it to continue with its planned programme of events; if so, when the funds will be made available and the amount of moneys that will be allocated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21569/98]

Under the schemes currently administered by my Department funding is provided to recognised national governing bodies of sports (NGBs) including contributions towards the cost of hosting international events. The recognised body for the sport of fly fishing is the Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland, and any applications to the Sports Council for grant aid towards the cost of activities in this area should be channelled in the first instance through the federation. I can, if the association so wishes, make arrangements for the executive chairman of the Sports Council to meet with their representatives to discuss this matter further.
