Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

653 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when an amenity grant awarded under the national lottery scheme will issue to an organisation (details supplied) in County Wexford. [21879/98]

A grant of £3,000 was allocated to the organisation in November 1996 under the sports capital progamme.

Section 5.2 of the terms and conditions of the programme under which the grant was offered, specifically provides that "an organisation which has been allocated grant-aid should arrange to have the relevant documentation submitted to the Department within three months from the date of grant allocation. Failure to furnish this documentation or to communicate with the Department within a reasonable period following grant allocation may result in the grant being cancelled."
My Department wrote to the organisation on 1 July 1997 seeking additional information. As no reply was received to this correspondence, two registered letters were issued on 25 June 1998 and 17 August 1998 informing the organisation that the grant would be withdrawn if a reply, outlining how it was proposed to draw down the grant, was not forthcoming. As no reply was received to either of these letters, the grant was withdrawn on 1 October 1998 and the organisation was informed accordingly.
